Robt F Kennedy Jr Picks Rodgers possible Running Mate

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has a short list when it comes to his running mate on the independent presidential ticket. On Tuesday, it was reported Kennedy has been in talks with NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as well as former Minnesota governor and professional wrestler Jesse Ventura. Kennedy later confirmed the two were at the top of his list for potential running mates, and said he's been speaking with Rodgers "pretty continuously" for the past month.

Newsome's Prop 1 still too close to call

Governor Gavin Newsom's Prop 1 is as tight as can be but opponents may be throwing in the towel. In a statement Tuesday, Californians Against Proposition 1 said the ballot measure will likely pass "even if by a razor-thin margin." The Secretary of State's office said the vote remains too close to call. The "Treatment Not Tents" initiative is Newsom's strategy for funding more treatment beds and housing to address the state's homelessness crisis. It would be a major revision to California's Mental Health Services Act. Anthony Clark, spokesman for the Prop 1 campaign told the Sacramento Bee the measure will provide the housing that allows CARE Court to work.

Chico Man Guilty in Squatters Case

Butte County District Attorney 's office says a Butte County judge found Howard Todd guilty of first-degree burglary and resisting arrest, . This case stemmed from a Nov. 17, 2023 incident in which a Chico homeowner called police and said she was out of town but her neighbors had seen people inside her house. After a stnadoff Todd was arrested and faced burglary and other charges. He will back in court for sentencing on April 11 and faces up to 6 yrs in state prison

Reward Offered for Stolen items Stansbury Carriage House

On February 18th and 19th the Stansbury Home Carriage house was broken into and a significant amount of Dr. Stansbury historic medical collection was stolen. The Stansbury Preservation Association is offering a $5000 reward for information that leads to the return of the medical collection. The collection included many medical items dating from the mid 1800s to the early 1900s. New Rock Slide Hwy 70 in Feather River Canyon

Cal Trans Officials say A new large rock slide blocked Highway 70 early Wednesday, March 6. The new slide is three miles east of the Butte/Plumas County line. The slide happened within the existing Highway 70 closure which is from the Greenville Wye to Jarbo Gap, due to the previous slide near the Shady Rest Area. There is no estimated time on when this slide will be cleared from the roadway.

Chico Stage Bike Races Sunday Close Downtown Streets

The Chico Stage will close multiple streets in Chico. The race will take place on Sunday, March 10. Both Broadway and Main Street will be closed between Second and Seventh Streets. Third and Fourth Streets will be closed between Salem and Flume Streets. Fifth and Sixth Streets will be closed between Salem and Wall Streets, and Wall Street will be closed between Second and Fourth Streets. The street closures will be from 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.

PGE warns of scams

PG&E received around 43,000 reports from customers who were targeted by scammers impersonating company employees and customers lost approximately $875,000 in fraudulent payments. Officials say they have had customers reporting scammers for years, but the numbers keep rising. Last Dec., they had 21 reported scams in Chico, 13 in Oroville and six in Redding. PGE Spokesman Paul Moreno says that PGE will send a letter to inform a customer if they fall behind on payments and to report any calls they may receive they believe be a scam call.

PGE to send Some relief for rate payers

Relief is coming for millions of Californians. They'll receive an average of 146-dollars in credits on their April utility bills. This happens twice a year thanks to the state's climate program which requires polluters to pay for climate action. The amounts range from 32-dollars to 175 for electricity, and 58-dollars to 86 for natural gas. The credits will be applied automatically for customers of PG&E.

Chico to notify Another Camp Clearout

The City of Chico has notified the legal services of Northern California, Advocates for the homeless , of another notice to hand out 7 day notices to a encampment at lindo channel. According to City officials they are currently 12 living at the site with 15 unoccupied sites at this location. City offcials say there are 13 pallet shelters available and 43 beds at the Torres Shewlter. City plans on handing the 7 day notices on Thursday March 7.

1 killed others injured in Early AM Car Crash into Home in Chico

1 Woman was killed and 3 People injured in an early morning accident after a car crashed in to a home near West Sacramento and the Esplanade . Chico Police say they were in pursuit of the suspect vehicle when it crashed .. the Driver of the car fled from the scene on foot but was arrested blocks away ..reports are a woman in the home was killed. Initial investigation shows that Driving under the influence and Speed may have played a part in the accident..

Hiwy 70 to remain closed as Work to Clear roadway continues

Cal Trans Officials report Highway 70 through the Feather River Canyon will remain closed as crews continue to clear the road. Officials say they plan to keep the road closed through the upcoming heavy rain forecasted for the next few days. They expect the road to reopen sometime next week.

Chico PD to Hold Community Engagement Meeting

On Thursday, , the Chico Police Department will hold a Community Engagement Meeting in accordance with Assembly Bill 481. The meeting will be held in the City of Chico Council Chambers and begin at 6 p.m. AB 481 requires law enforcement agencies to obtain approval of a Military Equipment Use Policy from their applicable governing body before taking certain actions related to the funding, acquisition, or use of military equipment as defined by the legislature. The Military Equipment Use Policy is subject to City Council review to determine whether the standards outlined in AB 481 have been met, based upon an Annual Military Equipment Use Report. Chief Billy Aldridge has made the decision to hold the community engagement meeting before the City Council reviews the policy to gain input from the community.

Glenn Co Sups Declare State of Emergency

Glenn County Supervisors approved a local emergency proclamation. This gives the county the authority to apply to the state for recovery assistance to clear the debris that remains after the most recent storm swept through the county from Feb. 15 through Feb. 21. The initial damage estimated to remove debris on roads, natural streams and public right of ways alone is $150,000.

Chico State Frat accused of Hazing

Chico State fraternity Sigma PI has been served a cease and desist letter that says that the frat has been participating in hazing. UNiversity Officials say while the university investigates, the fraternity cannot operate as a recognized student organization, meaning they can't recruit new members or even have any new meetings or events.

CSU Student Workers Vote to Join Union

Students from the California State University campuses agreed to form the nation's largest undergraduate student union. More than seven-thousand of them voted for it across the 23 campuses, students who work on-campus jobs are joining the California State University Employees Union. The next step is to create a negotiating team and present their demands to the Cal State administration. The chancellor's office says they plan to bargain in good faith.

Man killed after being Hit By Big Rig

Overnight the CHP report a man was killed on Hwy 99 near the Esplanade after being hit by a Big Rig.. it happened late Sunday night Officials closed the Southbound lanes of the Hiway for about 2.5 hours..the investigation continues into the reason why the victim was on the roadway..The driver of the Big Rig was interviewed and CHP reports alcohol or drugs not a factor in the accident.

Woman Killed Orovlle Accident

A woman was killed after a car veered off Kusel Road in Oroville hitting a bridge before diving into the water early Saturday Morning CHP identified the driver as Dakotah O'Reily, and the surviving passenger as Richard Lee Overturf. Both men are from Oroville. Police arrested O'Reily on charges of vehicular manslaughter and for taking off from the scene of an accident where people were hurt and killed. The identity of the woman killed is being withheld until family is notified. Police say the crash still under investigation

Break in at Historic Stansbury House in Chico

Someone broke in to the Lower Carriage House at the Historic Stansbury Home in Downtown Chico . According to Board members the break in occured sometime between Monday Night and early Tuesday ..the break in occured in the lower Carriage House that housed Medical Artifacts and Antique Medicines used by Dr Stansbury.  Chico Police are investigating the break in and are asking for any information from the public.. if you know anything you are asked to call the Chico POlice Department

Cal Trans Closes Hwy 70 thru Feather River Canyon

Cal Trans has once again closed the stretch of Highway 70 thru the Feather River Canyon from teh Jarbo gap to the Greenville Wye to due an early Morning Mudslide.

Offcials have not said when they will reopen the roadway.
