Chico residents can apply for refunds for phone taxes paid to the city thanks to the failure of Measure J on the November ballot. City Finance Director Jennifer Hennessy told the Chico Enterprise-Record if an individual shows documentation that they paid a utility tax bill for cellphones or Voice Over Internet Protocol, the city will issue a refund. The City Council is trying to figure out how to compensate for the lost revenue, which could be $900,000.
