Proposition 63 would require background checks and prohibit the possession of large capacity magazines. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea along with Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko are opposed to the proposition. Both believe that the focus should be on the mental and criminal element not on guns and ammunition. Sheriff Honea told reporters that he believes the measure is a waste of public resources and money. The California State Sheriff's' Association has voiced its opposition to prop. 63.
